Welcome to Waratah Alpaca and Pepperberry Farm in the charming town of Waratah, where nature and history come together on our stunning 20-acre property. Our farm is home to friendly alpacas, playful donkeys, curious goats, and a delightful assortment of chickens and geese. Immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings as you wander across our scenic property, featuring a serene river and a quaint bridge that leads to 10 acres of fenced pepperberry trees—an ideal spot for camping or leisurely walks. You’ll also have the chance to encounter native wildlife, including pademelons, wallabies, echidnas, and wombats, making this a true nature lover’s paradise. Waratah itself offers breathtaking natural beauty, with picturesque lakes perfect for fishing and a stunning waterfall right in the center of town. Take a refreshing walk to its base or embark on the scenic trek to Philosopher’s Falls, where the magic of the Tasmanian wilderness awaits. Steeped in Australian history, Waratah was home to the first tin mine and the birthplace of electricity in the region.

Waratah Caravan and Camping Ground offer affordable powered and unpowered sites overlooking the picturesque trout-filled Waratah Lake. Waratah is a picture-postcard historic mining town situated at the eastern gateway to the magnificent Tarkine Wilderness. Just a 45-minute drive south of Burnie, Waratah is approximately halfway between the North West Coast and the Wild West Coast of Tasmania. Only a 40-minute drive to the iconic Cradle Mountain, Waratah offers an affordable base to explore the natural beauty of this spectacular part of Tasmania. The Caravan Park is within walking distance to all the main town attractions, including the famous Waratah Waterfall, once used as a source of power in the state's second hydroelectric scheme. The energetic will enjoy the choice of accessible walks in and around the town, including the stunning Philosopher Falls Track. There is a 9-hole golf course, and the keen angler can fish for trout in the well-stocked lake. All camping ground enquiries should go to the Waratah Post Office during normal business hours. There is no manager on site after hours. Please call ahead to ensure your accommodation requirements can be met as they do not book specific sites in advance - first come basis for site selection.

The Post Office is a 1913 heritage-listed post office that has been lovingly restored into a luxury escape for couples but accommodates up to four guests. Located directly across the road from the Waratah Waterfall there are expansive views from every window. With many of its original features intact, such as 4.2 metre high pressed tin ceilings, arched sash windows, the original cedar post office counter, brass fixtures and walk-in bank safe. The space has been designed to be sympathetic to the era with comfort in mind. Filled with a curated collection of antiques, oil paintings and unique pieces. The main queen bedroom is located in a private corner of the open plan living area. The layout, designed with privacy and comfort in mind, features a floor to ceiling velvet curtain and purpose-built half wall to successfully separate the living and sleeping quarters. The cosy second double bedroom boasts a bed nook, with a cast iron bath. The layout, warm colour palette and lighting has been purposefully designed to create a romantic space, into which guests can retreat. The main bathroom has underfloor heating and a large, level access shower and toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped perfect for longer stays to explore Tasmania’s West Coast. The kitchen includes a 5 gas burner, ILVE oven and a large SMEG fridge, freezer and microwave.
